The elegant shapes ofvessels have long fascinated many artists, who have sought to offer us graphic representations of their gentle floating on the reflective surface of the water or their dramatic struggles against storm-tossed waves. Whether made from direct observation, or involving more poetic evocations, all these drawings transmit thegreat allure of thevessels’ agile forms. Presented in this room is a selection of drawings from the museum’s collection, produced by European and Portuguese artists between the 17th and early 19th century.
