Due to construction work on the museum's building, the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga (MNAA) will close its European Painting Gallery for renovations as part of Portugal’s Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) commencing on March 3, 2025. The anticipated reopening of the gallery is scheduled for May 2026.

During the renovation period, the following sections will remain accessible to the public: the European Decorative Arts, the Textiles room, the Mezzanine Room, the Portuguese Nativity Scene Rooms, the Furniture Gallery, the Art from the Portuguese Discoveries Rooms, the Jewellery and Gold and Silverware section, the Ceramics Rooms, the Portuguese Painting and Sculpture Gallery, the restaurant and the garden.
