• GENRE SCENES

European drawings (18th and 19th centuries)

Scenes inspired by everyday life became popular in the second half of the 18th century. Multiple aspects of the lives of common people, in both urban environments and the countryside, began to appear in drawing and painting.
From simple notes made in the artists’ sketchbooks to elaborate studies carried out for paintings or engravings, these themes were approached with a combination of direct observation and reconstruction of reality.
