In the 1960s, the collection from the BNU vaults was brought from Goa to Lisbon, remaining stored in the BNU and Caixa Geral de Depósitos for 50 years. After the necessary diplomatic process, the boxes were opened and the MNAA was summoned to pronounce the value of its contents whereupon the historical and artistic importance of the pieces was quickly recognized.
Incorporated in the MNAA collection, the jewels of Goa will be shown to the public for the first time in an exhibition which contextualizes them within the panorama of Indian and Indo-Portuguese production, through contributions from national and international experts.
