    Faience from the MNAA Collection

Large faience pieces of the ceramics collection of the MNAA linked to the theme of running water, in another exhibition of the "Sala do Tecto Pintado".
Originating from Portugal, Spain and France, and dating from the mid-17th century to the early 19th century, they are first compared with the French decorative arts and then with architecture, drawings and engravings of stone fountains, which served as their source of inspiration and their formal aesthetic model; they are also related with several Portuguese tile compositions from the turn of the 17th to the 18th century.
