An impressively sized piece, originally measuring roughly six metres in length, this magnificent carpet is notable for its sophisticated technical characteristics (6400 knots/dm2) and for the quality of its design, which reveals the influence of a Persian painter. Equally remarkable is the variegated palette of colours that are used: amounting to seventeen in total.
The representation of a rich landscape – inhabited by birds, exotic and mythological animals, trees, shrubs, small leaves, buds and flowers – creates a luxuriant and exotic setting, where the concept of a Persian pleasure garden is combined with that of a royal hunting ground.
